A roof on the Mississippi has to take hail in June, a hundred degree attic in August and an ice dam in January. Storm damage? (888) 888-8888

Roofing Materials

Synthetic Slate

Synthetic slate is engineered polymer molded from real slate, so it carries the texture at a fifth of the weight and needs no structural work.
Synthetic Slate roof surface

What It Is

Recycled rubber and plastic pressed in molds taken off genuine slates, which is why the faces are irregular rather than repeating. From the ground almost nobody can tell.

Where It Wins

  • Goes on any frame that carries asphalt
  • Will not crack underfoot the way stone does
  • Fifty year warranties are normal
  • Class A fire and good impact ratings

Where It Does Not

  • Costs about the same as a metal roof
  • The product is newer than its warranty, so long term field history is thin
  • Cheap versions fade, so the brand genuinely matters

In the Quad Cities

The sensible answer for an old Davenport house that should have slate and cannot hold it. It is what we suggest most often on a historic roof where the structure says no.
