Roofing Materials
Composite and Polymer Shingles
Composite shingles copy cedar shake in a molded polymer that does not rot, burn easily or need treating.

What It Is
The same idea as synthetic slate aimed at wood instead. A house that wants the shake look without the maintenance and the fire question ends up here.
Where It Wins
- The look of cedar with none of the upkeep
- Class A fire rating, unlike real untreated wood
- Excellent impact resistance, which matters in hail country
Where It Does Not
- Expensive
- Close up it is clearly not wood
In the Quad Cities
A genuinely good answer where an insurer has made a real cedar roof difficult or costly to keep insured.
