Siding, Soffit, Fascia and Trim

Siding and trim belong in the same conversation as the roof, because the same hailstorm hits both and the same water gets into both.

At a Glance

  • Hail that hits a roof usually hits the siding too
  • Rotten fascia has to be fixed before new gutters
  • Soffit is half your attic ventilation
  • One crew, one claim, one trip up the ladder
Siding and Trim work in the Quad Cities

We are a roofing company and this page exists because of where a roof stops. The fascia holds the gutters. The soffit feeds the attic its air. The siding takes the same storm. Treating those as somebody else's problem means three companies and three schedules for one repair.

The Parts and What They Do

PartWhere It IsWhat Goes Wrong
FasciaThe board behind the gutterRots when the gutter overflows onto it
SoffitThe underside of the overhangBlocked or panelled over, killing attic airflow
Rake and drip edgeThe gable edge and roof edgeWind gets under it and works it loose
SidingThe wallsHail cracks it, and it hides water behind it

Fascia First, Then Gutters

Hanging new gutters on soft fascia is a wasted job. The spikes or hangers have nothing to hold and the whole run sags within a year or two.

Rotten fascia almost always means the old gutters were overflowing, which means something about the drainage needs changing too and not just the boards.

Siding on a Hail Claim

Adjusters inspect elevations separately. It is common for a roof to be approved and hail damaged siding on one or two walls to be missed because nobody asked.

If we are on a hail claim we look at the walls as well and document what we find. You are not obliged to do that work with us and you should know it is there either way.

Questions About Siding and Trim

Do you do full siding replacement?

We do repair, trim, soffit, fascia and storm related siding work. For a whole house re side we will tell you honestly whether we are the right crew for it.

Can soffit really affect my roof?

Yes. Soffit vents are where attic air comes in. Blocked soffit means a hot attic in summer and condensation in winter, and both shorten the roof.
