EPDM Rubber Membrane

What It Is

A synthetic rubber sheet, seamed with tape or adhesive. It has been on roofs since the 1960s, so there is no guessing about how it ages.

Where It Wins

• The longest proven track record of any single ply system
• A small roof can go on in one sheet with no field seams at all
• Repairs are simple and the materials are everywhere
• Handles cold very well, which counts in an Iowa January

Where It Does Not

• Black absorbs heat, so it warms the room beneath in summer
• Seams are taped rather than welded, and tape is the weak point
• Punctures more easily than TPO under foot traffic
